Mr. Harmon began his career in health care in a master’s program at UCLA combining public health and business administration to develop professionals in health care planning and administration. After receiving his Master’s Degree in Business Administration, he went on to enjoy a health care administration career spanning 39 years and incorporating management jobs in health professional education, planning cancer research centers, county health services (as a planner, as a Skilled Nursing Facility Administrator, and ultimately as Local Mental Health Director), hospice home care services, and from 1999 – 2009 as administrator of psychiatric inpatient, emergency room, outpatient, and consumer-run services. He currently serves as Regional Director for the Alzheimer’s Association, Southland Chapter.As a volunteer, those same years saw Mr. Harmon serving on boards in leadership capacities for the American Lung Association, non-profit community mental health organizations, the San Diego Hospice, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill chapters in San Diego and the Coachella Valley, the Mental Health Association, a UCLA Alumni Association regional chapter, and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists – Desert Chapter.
In 2003, Mr. Harmon’s career took a turn in another direction as he entered a second master’s degree program to pursue a clinical career in behavioral health. In 2006 he graduated with a Master of Counseling degree. His Marriage and Family Therapist internship was completed in inpatient units, psychiatric emergency rooms, outpatient behavioral health, private practice, homeless shelters, children’s grief groups, and a full-service mental health center in the high desert of San Bernardino County. He is now a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a private clinical practice in Palm Desert and Palm Springs.
Mr. Harmon brings to the All-Desert Wellness Centers his expertise in program planning and management and resource development, his organizational skills, and his vision of serving the whole person in a health care system that values wellness and works toward parity of physical and behavioral health services. Mr. Harmon has defined his program and clinical interests as anger management, services to older adults; chronic and terminal illness, as well as grief and loss; gay and lesbian issues; and vocational services for the mentally ill.
As the Chief Financial Officer he also serves currently as Recording Secretary for the Board of Directors. He keeps a book of minutes of the proceedings of the members of the Board of Directors and committees of the Board. He also keeps and maintains adequate and correct books and records of accounts of the properties and business transactions of All-Desert Wellness Centers, including accounts of its assets, liabilities, receipts, disbursements, gains, losses, capital, retained earnings, and any other matters customarily included in financial statements.
Mr. Harmon is responsible for all monies (deposited and disbursed) and other valuables in the name and to the credit of the corporation as may be designated by the Board of Directors; renders sufficient information as requested or directed by the board, that is, an account of his/her transactions as Chief Financial Officer and of the financial condition of the corporation; and prepares a proposed annual budget to be presented to the Board of Directors prior to the beginning of each fiscal year.
